Sports Rehabilitation
What Is Sports Rehabilitation?
As a Sports Rehabilitator I am specifically trained in the assessment and treatment of soft tissue injuries.
I combine a variety of skills and techniques to help speed up injury recovery, I am trained in creating appropriate exercises to help get you back to exercise safely.
When Do You Need It?
- Recovering From Recent Injury
- Back Pain
- Recurring Injury Not Resolving
- Knee or Foot Pain
- After Joint Surgery
What should I expect in a treatment?
The first session always starts with a detailed history of the current problem, and a physical injury assessment to determine the problem and that sports rehabilitation is the correct course of action
Initial treatment uses the integration of various therapies. Massage, Ultrasound and Electrotherapy can be used to help the progress of the initial healing time. Joint areas can be mobilised to reduce stiffness and where available and necessary, hydrotherapy exercises allow the individual to start gently exercising the injured area, whilst the water supports and compresses the surrounding joints and soft tissues.
A sports rehabilitator is qualified to take you through gentle stretches and exercise to help recovery. Once the area is strong enough the exercise will progress to bring the injury site back to its pre-injured strength, where possible. The progressions can ultimately include sports specific exercises to strengthen the area in the way you will use it within your sport, often improving on your previous power and strength. This can include core stability and strength work, balance and proprioception, power and speed drills. For the non-athlete, the rehabilitator will ensure you have the strength required to get on with your daily life.
Where necessary, gait and foot analysis can be done to make sure the foot is able to function properly, thus not producing adverse stress on other body parts, mainly the knee, hip and back.
Sessions are always concluded with advice, and where required, stretches and/or exercise to help with your recovery.
